With Ekstasis, Ensemble88 presents a compelling programme dedicated to the work of two leading voices in contemporary music: Kaija Saariaho and Jean-Baptiste Barrière. In NoaNoa and Lonh, flute, soprano and live electronics intertwine to create fragile, layered soundscapes in which breath, voice and longing take centre stage. Crossing The Blind Forest then unfolds as an imaginary journey through ever-shifting landscapes of sound and image, before the title work Ekstasis concludes the evening with an immersive audiovisual composition in which music, live video and electronics become one.
Performed by soprano Raphaële Kennedy, flautist Anne Davids and composer Jean-Baptiste Barrière on live electronics and video, Ekstasis invites audiences to leave familiar boundaries behind and surrender to a sensory experience in which sound, space and image continuously interact.
