Fading movie star Bob Harris – a wonderful role by Bill Murray – is in Japan to shoot a whiskey commercial. He is in a marriage and a midlife crisis. In the bar of his hotel, he meets young Charlotte, who has travelled to Tokyo with her husband for his work. Charlotte feels lost and lonely in Japan; a country whose language she does not speak and whose culture she does not understand. In Bob she finds a conversation partner and, as it soon turns out, a soul mate. Together they embark on a magical trip through nocturnal Tokyo.

Lost In Translation is a film about searching for connection in a strange world. Coppola sprinkles her film with beautiful pop songs (by The Jesus & Mary Chain and My Bloody Valentine, among others) and lets the actors shine, culminating in the classic scene in the karaoke bar in which Murray croons More Than This by Roxy Music. The film received four Oscar nominations, and won in the category best original screenplay.
