Home Sweet Home
A moving Danish drama about a single mother who starts a new job in elderly care but struggles to balance her demanding work with her role as a mother.
Sofie begins a new job as a carer making home visits to old people in the small town where she lives with her ten-year-old daughter. Some of her patients are still quite mobile, others are bedridden and suffering from serious dementia. Sofie treats everyone with affection and professional care. She quickly finds her way into her role, but the harsh realities of the work soon become apparent. Sofie is increasingly stressed and exhausted and her relationship with her daughter suffers. But, in spite of all the challenges, she manages to retain her humanity and warmth.
Director Frelle Petersen has cast a number of the roles in his film with non-professional actors from the region. With its precise and authentic portrayal, Home Sweet Home shines a light on a profession that fulfils such an important function in society but remains largely invisible to the public eye.
