Hans van Manen: Just Dance The Steps
An energetic portrait of choreographer Hans van Manen, whose clear style and boundless curiosity have left a lasting mark on the world of dance.

As Hans van Manen approaches his ninetieth birthday, director Willem Aerts follows the choreographer through rehearsals, meetings and everyday moments. Van Manen works with dancers from Dutch National Ballet, passes his choreographies on to a new generation and continues to make plans of his own. His age seems to do little to slow him down. With a sharp eye and infectious energy, he talks about his work and his enduring love for dance, music, theatre and visual art.
Van Manen is one of the great masters of contemporary ballet and has created more than 150 ballets. His choreographies are known for their clarity of structure and refined simplicity. As artistic director and resident choreographer, he has worked with both Nederlands Dans Theater and Dutch National Ballet, to which he has been permanently associated since 2005. Hans van Manen: Just Dance the Steps offers a portrait not only of a great choreographer at work, but also of the man behind an oeuvre that has shaped generations of dancers and audiences.
