Weathering With You - English subtitled
Inventive and loving anime about an adolescent boy and a girl with a very special gift.
During his trip to Tokyo, the idealistic 16-year-old Hodaka meets Suga, editor of a magazine for weird tales. He offers Hodaka a job as well as accommodation in the metropolis. Consequently Hodaka befriends the sweet orphan Hina, a girl with a ponytail and a special gift: through prayers she can stop the rain. A special relationship develops between the two young wandering souls.
Just like in his previous film YOUR NAME – the most successful Japanese film ever in terms of visitors – the tragedy of love is the secret ingredient of director Makoto Shinkai in this film. In addition, there are clearly some ecological messages – do not mess with the weather – and traditional Japanese myths to be found in the story. WEATHERING WITH YOU has also become a huge success in Japanese cinemas and is also selected as the Japanese Oscar submission. It should be clear: Shinkai has the wind at his back. And rightly so.
