Warfare
Chilling war thriller from Alex Garland (Civil War, Ex Machina) about a group of US soldiers who get into a fierce firefight during a mission in Iraq.
During the Iraq war, a U.S. Navy SEAL unit prepares for a dangerous mission. Hidden in a family’s house in Ramadi, snipers closely monitor every enemy movement, but things go awry. When gunfire erupts, the operation turns into a chaotic struggle for survival. As the soldiers pull out all the stops to keep the wounded alive, their situation grows increasingly dire, raising the question of how much longer they can survive.
Based on the personal memories of Iraq veteran Ray Mendoza, who wrote and co-directed the film with Alex Garland, this formal experiment brings war unfathomably close. Told in real-time and from the soldiers’ perspective, the film realistically portrays both the horror of warfare and the resulting brotherhood between soldiers. A new generation of actors, including Joseph Quinn (Gladiator II) and Will Poulter (Midsommar), give the enthralling narrative a face.
