Uit ’t Leven - English subtitled + Q&A
Gripping documentary about the high number of suicides within the LGBTQ+ community.
The LGBTQ+ community has long struggled with suicide. Data from the Dutch crisis hotline – 113 Suicide prevention – show that nearly half of all LGBTQ+ adults in the Netherlands have entertained suicidal thoughts at some point in their lives. The number of actual suicide attempts is four times higher than among heterosexuals. For transgender people, the figures are even more shocking. Yet the subject of suicide seems to be a taboo within the rainbow community. Tim Dekkers wants to break down this taboo with this gripping documentary. For two years, he followed three people who went through a jet-black period: Brazilian acrobat Jean, model/trans woman Solange and city councillor Kris. All three have had to deal, directly or indirectly, with suicide. Will they manage to get their lives back on track? Can they set an example for others in mental distress?
