The Iron Claw
Director Sean Durkin (Martha Marcy May Marlene) grips the viewer with the tragic, fact-based story of the rise and fall of the famous Von Erich wrestling family.
‘The Iron Claw’ was the name of the wrestling hold with which show wrestler Fritz von Erich made a name for himself in the 1950s; a tight grip on the face that leaves an opponent paralysed on the ground. With a similar iron grip, Fritz ruled over his four sons: brothers Kerry, Kevin, Mike and David. In the 1980s, the brothers rise to the top of show wrestling, a theatrical style of wrestling with high entertainment value for the audience. Although they prosper in the ring, outside it there seems to be a curse on the Von Erichs. A series of unbearable personal tragedies lead to the family’s downfall.
Sean Durkin assembled an ensemble cast for THE IRON CLAW that includes Harris Dickinson (TRIANGLE OF SADNESS) and Zac Efron (THE GREATEST SHOWMAN), who underwent massive physical transformations for their roles.
