On 2 October 2018, exiled Saudi journalist and Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi entered the Saudi consulate in Istanbul to obtain documents he needed for his marriage to Hatice Cengiz. Inside, he was brutally murdered by Saudi agents. The Saudi authorities claimed Khashoggi was killed in a ‘rogue operation’. But a variety of evidence points towards a more sinister plot, involving Saudi crown prince Mohammed bin Salman.

This detailed account of the murder and its aftermath leaves no stone unturned. With a treasure trove of new evidence and previously unseen footage, director Bryan Fogel delivers a gripping account of a murder that shocked the world. With impressive appearances by Khashoggi’s friend and fellow-dissident Omar Abdulaziz, and his brave and committed fiancé Hatice Cengiz.

Bryan Fogel, USA, 2020, 119 min. Arabic, Turkish & English spoken, Dutch subtitles.
