Thank You For The Rain
Five years ago, Kenyan farmer Kisilu started documenting his life with the camera he had been given by Norwegian filmmaker Julia Dahr. The result is a remarkable documentary about the consequences of climate change in his environment.
Kisilu films the life of his family, the village he lives in, and the steadily worsening extreme weather conditions in his country. At first, there is extreme drought and the community anxiously awaits the rain. But once it arrives, the consequences are dire: an unprecedented severe storm destroys Kisilu’s house and a huge flood covers the land and ruins all the crops. That gets the farmer into action: he starts a local movement for farmers to get more attention for the disastrous consequences of climate change. Eventually, he even travels to Oslo and Paris to speak his mind at the big climate conferences. But in his fight for a better world, it seems that climate change is not his only enemy: bureaucracy, political interests and arrogance regularly throw a spanner in the works.
