Some Like it Hot – Open air screening
Classic comedy starring Marilyn Monroe, Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis. Was named best American comedy of all time by the American Film Institute.
Chicago, 1920s. Joe and Jerry, jazz musicians, involuntarily witness a massacre between rival gangsters and abscond to a girl’s orchestra on its way to Florida. The duo changes into women’s clothes to join the band and both Joe and Jerry fall like a log for the sexy, seemingly naive Sugar, an unforgettable role played by Marilyn Monroe.
With SOME LIKE IT HOT, director Billy Wilder created a new standard in comedic cinema. He gave absurd dialogue even more momentum, heightened the sexual charge, elaborated the transvestite theme in pointed, hilarious one-liners, and turned the storyline into a fast-paced joke about the lust for fame and money. Despite problems during filming, Monroe’s performance was one of the best of her career: she turned out to be a thoroughbred comedienne and received a Golden Globe for her portrayal of Sugar.
