In Nora El Hourch’s feature film debut, we follow Amina, Djeneba, and Zineb, three inseparable fifteen-year-olds from a Parisian underprivileged neighbourhood. Despite being labelled as outsiders by their classmates—the weirdo, the brute, and the nun—the tight-knit group remains unshaken. They proudly present themselves together on their shared Instagram account. When Zineb is harassed at a party, the girls take action. They film the incident and post the video online, triggering a series of unexpected and far-reaching consequences.

El Hourch’s film sharply contrasts the sexual development of young women with the hostile environment surrounding them. Just as LA HAINE portrayed racial tensions in the French banlieues in the 1990s, SISTERHOOD captures today’s generation’s battle against transgressive behaviour. This debut is a powerful feminist statement that challenges patriarchy in a raw and provocative way, placing the struggle of these young women firmly in the spotlight.
