Time & Tickets

Three decades after she left behind marathon swimming to pursue a career as a respected sports journalist, Diana aspires to conquer the swim that has always fuelled her passion: the journey from Cuba to Florida. Spanning a distance of 110 miles, this swim is often dubbed the Mount Everest of swimming. Determined to become the first person to complete this swim without the protection of a shark cage, Diana embarks on an exhilarating four-year journey alongside her best friend and coach, Bonnie, and a dedicated sailing team.

Co-directors Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin previously gained acclaim with FREE SOLO and THE RESCUE, documentaries that pay tribute to the determination of exceptional individuals. NYAD seamlessly aligns with their previous work. It's an optimistic, fictionalized tribute to friendship, with Annette Bening and Jodie Foster shining as agile, sporty perseverers. Their adventure cleverly weaves in television footage of the real Diana Nyad, adding an extra layer of realism to the film.

Jimmy Chin, USA, 2023, 120 min. English spoken, Dutch subtitles. With Jodie Foster, Annette Bening.
