Blind priest Ian Nichols bravely ventures into the unknown on his ill-fated quest to reclaim normalcy through innovation. Through experimental sequences the film manages to give a sense of Nichols’ unique ‘vision’, effectively taking you along in both his amazement and frustration. Walking a fine line between staged storytelling and observational documentary, director Landon Van Soest stays close to Nichols, understanding the magnetic pull of his endearing main character. Conversations with Nichols’ highly skeptical sister, who is also blind, lay bare frictions around perception and capitalized healthcare. A heartfelt portrait of a brave man in an awkward embrace with technology. (Source: InScience Festival)
