Les Amandiers
Drama about some young actors in their first year at a renowned Paris drama school. Their passion for theatre is tested by experiences inside and outside the school.
It’s the end of the 1980s in Paris. A young troupe of actors have just been admitted to Les Amandiers, the prestigious theatre school headed by Patrice Chéreau. They set out in life and in their early career. Along the way, they will learn, act, love, fear, live to the fullest and experience their first tragedy.
Actress and director Valeria Bruni Tedeschi draws upon her own memories in this fond, often rowdy group portrait of a tight-knit class navigating their first year at the school. Under the tutelage of Chéreau, the students grow both personally and professionally, studying briefly at The Actors Studio in New York City before tackling a year-end production of Chekhov’s PLATONOV. Among them is Stella, whose love affair with a talented but unstable fellow student provides a through line across Bruni Tedeschi’s chaotic and loving recollections.
