The confrontation between city and countryside produces tragic misunderstandings. In order to get closer to the farmer, artist Roos does her utmost to equal his late wife. With her rich imagination, she takes things a little too far.
Frouke Fokkema’s feature debut was made in cooperation with theatre group De Trust. The film won a Golden Calf (the Dutch equivalent to the Oscars) for Best Director and was successful at several international film festivals. Fokkema subsequently made the films WILDGROEI (1994) and DE OMWEG (2000) and wrote the screenplay for SUZY Q by Martin Koolhoven. The film has been digitally restored and is Eye’s contribution to A Season of Classic Films, an initiative involving 24 European film heritage institutions that highlights national and regional film archives.
