Featuring a captivating central performance from Babylon Berlin star Liv Lisa Fries, this new historical drama from Andreas Dresen depicts the remarkable true story of a young German woman during World War II. Shy Hilde gradually finds her place in the resistance group which will come to be known as ‘Die Rote Kapelle’ (The Red Orchestra). Hilde falls in love with Hans, flourishes and, in spite of the constant danger to her life, is happy for a summer. When the Gestapo arrest members of the group in the autumn, pregnant Hilde is among their number. As Hilde awaits her sentencing, she reminisces about her joyful romance with Hans, the most beautiful summer of her life.
Dresen’s compelling and humanistic film echoes the themes of The Lives Of Others, as a war drama that – without depicting a single bullet being fired – speaks more eloquently about courage than many battle-heavy spectacles.
