I Saw the TV Glow

Enthralling mix of psychological thriller, drama, and science fiction, telling the story of two teens who bond over their obsession with a cult TV series.

Time & Tickets

Set in the internet-free 1990s, amidst the chaos of adolescence, outsiders Owen and Maddy forge an unexpected friendship centred around the cult TV show, THE PINK OPAQUE. They devour its episodes, which provide a welcome escape from daily life, and immerse themselves deeper into their joint obsession. Years later, after the series has been cancelled and their friendship has grown cold, Maddy approaches Owen with a shocking question: what if the series was more than just fiction? What if the boundary between reality and television is less clear-cut than they once believed?

I SAW THE TV GLOW is ‘90s nostalgia at its peak, and explores how technology and art can serve as a lifeline for outsiders. Themes of identity, fandom, and obsession are examined through a queer coming-of-age lens. Featuring a soundtrack (and cameo) from alt-pop icon Phoebe Bridgers and Caroline Polacheck.

Jane Schoenbrun, USA, 2024, 100 min. English spoken, without subtitles. With Justice Smith, Brigette Lundy-Paine, Ian Foreman, Helena Howard, Lindsey Jordan.
