Housekeeping For Beginners
Energetic Macedonian family drama about a woman who never wanted to be a mother, but is forced by circumstances to raise her friend’s two daughters. Winner of the Queer Lion at the Venice Film Festival.
After the death of her friend Suada, Dita has reluctantly taken charge of Suada’s daughters: rebellious teenager Vanesa and little rascal Mia. She gets help from her good friend Toni and his partner. Together, they form an unusual family that faces a hard struggle to be accepted in society.
In this family drama, director Goran Stolevski takes the viewer into a multicultural and vibrant lgbtqia+ community. The film was made in a hyper-realistic style, with no rehearsals and plenty of room for improvisation. Hand-held camerawork, natural lighting and authentic locations were used for the shoot. The film received excellent reviews at the Venice Film Festival and was submitted by North Macedonia for the Oscars.
