El houb
Social drama about a Moroccan-Dutch man who confronts the cultural taboos in Arab families when he tells his parents that he is attracted to men.
Karim has kept up appearances for years, but after he is caught with a man by his father, he realises he must tell his family the truth. But how do you discuss homosexuality in a family that always avoids sensitive topics? In order to be accepted, he must come to terms with his own feelings first.
EL HOUB (Love) is the moving and humorous directorial debut of Shariff Nasr from Rotterdam. It is the first feature film to deal with the sensitivities of coming out in the Dutch-Moroccan community. The leading parts in the film are played by a top cast, including Dutch celebrities Fahd Larhzaoui and Nasrdin Dchar, and foreign stars like Lubna Azabal (INCENDIES, ADAM) and Slimane Dazi (UN PROPHÈTE).
