Een Schitterend Gebrek (A Beautiful Imperfection)
Michiel van Erp tells the compelling story of Lucia, the first and greatest love of womaniser Giacomo Casanova. Based on Arthur Japin’s bestseller.
After an enchanting encounter in Italy, the two promise each other eternal fidelity while waiting for Casanova's return from a business trip. But then Lucia is stricken with smallpox and closes herself off from her lover, and from the outside world. Sixteen years later, when she has reinvented herself as the mysterious and veiled courtesan Galathée, they meet again in Amsterdam. Without showing her face, Lucia and Casanova fall for each other again. As their love blossoms again, Lucia has to make a decision; does she dare to drop her mask and reveal her true identity?
Arthur Japin’s novel EEN SCHITTEREND GEBREK (the English translation is called IN LUCIA’S EYES) was a huge commercial success. The novel was translated in 22 languages. Japin himself co-wrote the English-language film scenario. The film opens this year’s Film by the Sea festival in Vlissingen.
