The much-anticipated cinematic return of Downton Abbey reunites the cast as they go on a journey to France to uncover the mystery of the Dowager Countess’ newly inherited villa.

After a tumultuous year – which included a royal visit – life at Downton Abbey seems to have returned to normal. However, nothing is further from the truth, since Violet, the Dowager Countess, seems to have inherited a villa in the South of France. While the family tries to uncover the mystery of why the late Marquis de Mitmirail left such a generous gift to Violet, Lord Grantham struggles to come to terms with his daughter’s decision to have a filmmaker shoot a picture at Downton Abbey. A new era seems to have arrived as the movie crew and film descend on the estate, and the family prepares itself for a trip to the French Riviera. However, secrets from the past are never far away…

This second feature film sees the return of almost the entire cast of the original series, including Maggie Smith, Hugh Bonneville and Michelle Dockery. The cast is joined by new names such as Hugh Dancy and Dominic West.
