Jaap has been with Maartje for almost fifty years. Whereas the petulant Jaap no longer feels much like doing things, Maartje – who is sometimes somewhat confused – is still full of zest for life. When the couple receives a letter from an old holiday friend, Jaap reluctantly agrees to visit him in southern Europe. In their old car, Jaap and Maartje travel through a totally changed Europe; bickering, but also retrieving one memory after another. On the way, Jaap comes to the painful realisation that his wife is suffering from dementia. Realising that everything might change, they rediscover why they love each other so much.
