De man uit Rome
The story of an investigative priest who is commissioned by the Vatican to investigate a weeping statue of the Virgin Mary in a village in Limburg.
Determined to expose the weeping statue as fake news, the sceptical priest Filippo finds himself in a village community that turns out to be deeply traumatised by an event that happened four years ago. The entire village clings to the miracle. Filippo begins his forensic investigation and encounters the owners of the crying statue. Nineteen-year-old Térèse, the daughter of the family, is a mysterious young woman who has not spoken since ‘the black day’ and sees Filippo’s arrival as a sign from above. She and her manipulative mother prove worthy adversaries for Filippo. Attracted and confused by Térèse, Filippo begins to doubt both his mission and his vocation as a priest.
