In the face of nightly air raids, East End mum Rita grows increasingly worried about her son George’s safety. On the advice of her father, Gerald, she makes the heart-wrenching decision to send him to the countryside. But a few hours into his journey, George gets off the train, determined to return to the London suburb of Stepney Green and his family. So he sets off on an adventure, putting himself in great danger. Along the way, George sees the impact of the war on British society, while his mother, meanwhile, has begun a desperate search for the missing George.

Steve McQueen’s new film boasts a great ensemble cast, including Saoirse Ronan (LADY BIRD) and Harris Dickinson (TRIANGLE OF SADNESS). But the film’s trump card is newcomer Elliott Heffernan as George. Thanks to him, McQueen's BLITZ becomes a beautiful portrait of life in an era of crisis, perseverance and renewal.
