Bank of Dave
Charming and optimistic drama about a working-class British millionaire who wants to start his own bank. The financial institutions do everything they can to thwart him.
BANK OF DAVE is loosely based on the story of Dave Fishwick, a simple yet incredibly rich man from the British village of Burnley. Dave, who got rich from personal loans to fellow townspeople during the financial crisis, decides to start a bank to give local businesses a chance. To help his beloved community, he enlists the help of young London-based lawyer Hugh. London’s elite financial institutions have however not granted a new banking license for more than one hundred years. What follows is David’s fight with Goliath: a battle between a man from the county and an army of top bankers trained at the country’s most prestigious universities.
In times of grabflation, it’s refreshing to see an individual fighting for community rather than profit in BANK OF DAVE. Yet, as serious as the subject matter may be, the tone of the film is light-hearted and similar to BIENVENUE CHEZ LES CH’TIS and FISHERMAN’S FRIENDS. Not entirely coincidentally, as the writers of BANK OF DAVE were also responsible for the latter film's screenplay.
